Fleet "Pirate Sea Board Dominance"

This fleet is for Ben's Sea Board Dominance Challenge, which involves controlling islands with Marines or Forts.

As usual, I had many ideas on how to approach this challenge, but in the end one overwhelming fact bothered me: marines are squishy. They only have an S gun, so all you need is a decently gunned smaller ship with L guns and its only a matter of time until you are out at least 5 points.

Forts are more sturdy, but take much longer to build since you have to get gold to your home island.

So, my goal in this fleet is to be as offensive as possible. The idea is to disrupt the opposing fleet before they have a chance of establishing their dominance. The goal would be to destroy forts, kill marines, or better yet derelict ships and capture them, taking away marines from the opponent.

The Black Pearl is the main enforcer. Armed to the teeth with the "hot" Calico Cat with possible reroll (not to mention the extra Marine Gun) she will be charged with a full attack on the main ship in the opposing fleet. If she gets the first shot, she should be able to destroy any defense the other fleet has, making it easier to attack their marines or supplemental ships. Once she is done with this, or when she has the opportunity, she will drop her marine (proxied here by the utterly worthless Empress the tiger) at a suitable island.

I would have really liked to use Grim the Savage , but I could not seem to fit him in. =(

The Windjammer is the fort destroyer, as it is immune to fort guns. I really wish Pirates had a 0 pt reroller for Le Requin, but oh well. Early on, the Jam will be tasked with trying to build a fort by getting one island's worth of gold home. She could also tag team with the Pearl if necessary to overwhelm the enemy, depending on the other fleet's makeup.

The Bloody Jewel is the marine carrier, tasked to fade behind the defensive line made by the offense and quietly drop marines at the nearest island.

Finally, we have the Jade cooperating with the Pirates, as I could not find a good fit from the Pirates to serve in the last role: marine killer. Here, the Virtuous Wind uses her great 2L guns, along with a reroll and awesome speed, to either attack marine carrying ships (if small enough), or pick off Marines on islands. She carries her own marine (proxied by Zheng) for defense and for drop off at an island, perhaps after she kills an enemy marine. She could also use her ability to great effect if she can steal enemy gold before it is used to make an enemy fort.

Weaknesses of this fleet include putting a lot of marines in one basket (although, its kinda hard not to with the point limits we were given), as well as if the opposing fleet gets enough marines out before the Pearl could interfere.

Thanks for the challenge, and I think this is the most 1337 (LEET) fleet!! w00p!!

The pearl is a beast here, with her speed and accurate cannons, she should be able to catch something on either the first turn or second turn, depending on who would go first and if dice rolls are kind to you.

Clever using the Bloody Jewel, good speed and excellent cargo. With Jonah on board, you'd really have to think about shooting at her since at least two marines will be sent to a wild island, giving you control of that island.

My only concern is the time it will take to build the forts. Getting at least one island's worth of gold home will take at least two turns, maybe three, whereas dropping off marines will be much faster.
Good Fleet overall though, I like it a lot. I almost used the Pearl myself, and at one point I too had some anit-fort pieces in my fleet, such as the Boston and Oxford, but couldn't fit them in for various reasons.
