I have some fleets I am working on for my venue for next week. We're going with 40 points, and no ship can cost more than 10 points!

This one is my mighty might fleet. The USS Maryland and USS Emerald have 4 masts between them. But don't think that these two are pushovers! The Emerald requires 2 hits to eliminate a mast. So it is a tough nut to crack! This ship will take point while the USS Maryland will swing around and ram the enemy ship. The moment she's pinned she eliminates a mast and a crew! With that ability, the Maryland has the potential to eliminate 4 masts in one action! Very powerful with ships that are 10 points or lower.

The Annapolis and Rattlesnake will of course treasure run to the "safe" wild islands, the Annapolis heading to the maybe less safe WI.

No complaints here. The USS Maryland and USS Emerald are both really great ships. It looks like this fleet would be really, really fun to play. The only other good American ships under 10 points: Boston, Destiny, Carolina.
