When I saw the first review of this ship, I was distraught. In no way is the El Neptuno a bad ship. In fact, it is a rather good ship to use to pick off pesky treasure runners from a long distance, and it costs only 12 points! Now, I encourage you to take out any old 5-master, and put two L cards and put them next to each other, and imagine that all around this ship. Pretty big, huh?
This is primarily a support ship, and can be used as a sniper to hit pesky treasure runners as well.
Strategies and game play:
As stated before, use it as a sniper to pick off unwanted treasure runners, or to get the first hit on that 5-master so that your 5-master can take it down more easily.
Combos with other miniatures:
First and foremost, the BC LE Almirante Devante del Nero, giving you a 33% chance of hitting at L+L range. Then, put on Capitan Alarico Castro, Duque Marcus Vaccaro (BC), a cannoneer, and a captain. This now gives you two rerolls and a free space, and the chance of moving and shooting 12 times per turn! Now, I believe that there's a somewhat cheap ship that gives +1 to cannon rolls for ships within S, put that next to the Neptuno. That should be under 40 points, and that's a 50% chance of hitting at L+L range! Not so bad now, huh? Also add in FoTG to kill Mermaids.
Ways to counteract it:
Zoom in fast without getting hit too much, blast it with Mermaids, just avoid it, or kill the crew or ship giving it support.
The L+L range leaves you with many opportunities, the low cost, and its speed.
Its cannon rolls leave much to be desired, the crew needed to be put on make it vulnerable to Mermaids, and its low point cost interfere with crew placement.
Artwork and aesthetics:
Standard Spanish, which I particularly like.
I will give the El Neptuno a 8/10.
