Smokepot Specialist

Miniature text:

Once per turn when this ship is given a shoot action, you may declare that one of her cannons is shooting a smokepot instead of a cannon; you do not need to target a ship. Simply place the center of a fog bank within S of this ship; it may not touch an island or any ship docked at an island. Remove the fog bank at the beginning of your next turn.

Shields up!

General description:
The Smokepot Specialist allows you to effectively leave a James Bond smokescreen behind your ship as you go to avoid being hit by an enemy.

Uses:
Smokepots work great on smaller gunships that are being pursued.

Strategies and game play:
The Smokepot works great on a smaller (2 or 3 mast) gunship and can really keep an opponent's bigger gunship confused/occupied. If you plop a fog bank down on your enemy's ship there's a good chance that it will be disoriented and nowhere near you the next turn. This could give your little gold runner the one-turn advantage it needs to speed away. Or, if your gunship with a Smokie on-board is getting pummelled, you can run away and leave a smoke-screen that your opponent can't shoot through or has to maneuver around.

Combos with other miniatures:
The Smokie is most useful with move/shoot or shoot/move abilities.

Ways to counteract it:
Standard anti-crew tactics.

Strengths/Pros:
- Allows the creation of a fog bank each turn

Weaknesses/Cons:
- None unique to this crew; succeptible to normal anti-crew strategies.

Artwork and aesthetics:
Boooring. We've seen the same cannoneer used for "Specialists" in Crimson Coast, Revolution, and now Barbary Corsairs. Something different, please?

Overall rating:
6 out of 10. Useful but not a "must have" in your fleet.

Smoke-pot specialists are SO underrated! I sank my brother's Grand Temple with a 4-master by shooting 3 cannons, then a smoke-pot to prevent return fire. A smoke-pot specialist works great with a captain.

Or a Reverse Captain. I've pulled that one myself, shoot smoke cloud, then run away.
