Wedge Antilles
Rebel Hero

written by darthmalstrom

General description:
Wedge Antilles, a lowly backgound character for some... but a major hero for most. Wedge is by far the most underrated character in the Star Wars Universe. Not only did he survive the first attack on the Death Star (while saving Luke's life), but he took down an AT-AT (no that wasn't Luke you uninformed non-Star Wars nerd) with a harpoon and tow cables. Oh yeah did I mention he blew up the second Death Star. Yeah... Wedge is the man, the myth, the leagand, and not a bad little Staw Wars Mini.

Wedge, like he does in the movie makes everyone better. His commander effect gives all rebel piolts evade. His stats are okay. Attacking he is a 9 (about average) his damage is a lowly 10... but Wedge makes up for it with the fact that he is almost impossible to kill. Wedge has evade and Avoid Defeat. Which means that when he is attacked he can take 0 damage with a save of 11. When he finally dies he gets two rolls, if he saves 11 on both he is still alive with 10 HP left. Oh yeah his defence is 18 too... great for a non-jedi.

Uses:
Like I said Wedge makes everyone better. Bring a lot of Rebel piolts to give them all evade. Wedge does have a decent attack (9) and gernades, but I seem to use him a lot to combine fire with people.

Strategies and game play:
Keep Wedge away from attackers, if they are adjacent he can't evade them. Just keep him moving-and-a-shaking.

Also my favorite thing in the world to do is bring Yoda of Dagobah and give Light Tutor to Wedge. What this means is that Wedge becomes a jedi... he gets one force point. and can spend Yoda's Renewing Force Points. Use both his and Yoda's FPs to re-roll missed saves from evading and Avoiding Defeats.

Combos with other miniatures:
Like I said eairler adding Yoda to a Wedge team is fun. If you have Wedge you might as well bring a couple piolts.

Ways to counteract it:
You can't stop Wedge... you can only hope to contain him... what I am a dork. The best way to get rid of Wedge is to bring someone right next to Wedge and attack him. Evade doesn't work when you are adjacent to him.

Strengths/Pros:
The fact that Wedge is impossible to kill. Which can be very frustrating (espically when your best friend knows how much you love Wedge and spends the whole game trying to kill him).

Weaknesses/Cons:
Low Damage output, and being a unique commander is always a weakness.

Artwork and aesthetics:
I really don't like this mini. I think the artwork is horrible. First off Wedge looks scared, which after flying in two Death Star battles and attacking an AT-AT I would think nothing would scare him. The sculpt looks nothing like the 2006 Emmy Nominated Denis Lawson, the amazing actor who played Wedge in the three OT movies.

Overall rating:
Wedge is an amazing piece. At 22 points you can bring in a lot of support pieces to help out... or you can bring Wedge as support.

I would give Wedge a 5 out of 5
