General description:
Wat is one of the best pieces in the game. At first you would not think he be that great, but when you look closer, you see one of a couple "Must Haves" for the sep army.
Wat's attack and defence are nothing to write home about, but he has some amazing abilities.
There are so many awesome abilities I don't even know where to start. First off he has repair 20. Wat is the only character who can repair 20 damage from droids, even Chewbacca RH only repairs 10.
The next awesome ability called Droid Mark. Droid Mark gives "Draw Fire" to an allied character. Draw Fire was given to the very frail C-3PO, which causes your enemy to only attack that character (if you choose) instead of any other character 6 squares away.
While you look at his 35 points and think that might be a little high to play, Wat gives us another ability. Wat has Droid Reinforcments 20, which allows you to add 20 more points of droids. That makes Wat only a 15 point character. Two R5s (which also could repair 20) are 16 points, and don't give Draw Fire.
Uses:
You want to take advantage of everything Wat has to offer. You will get the most out of all 15 points you spend on him. I think he is great in any size game. The bigger the army size, the better Wat becomes, but I even love him in a 100 point game. Try to get a nice open shooting map.
Strategies and game play:
The way to play Wat is to grab some giant character with a lot of hit points (X1-Viper is the best... I will talk about him more later) and give him droid mark, then put Wat behind him. I would put Wat, and a couple boudy guard droids all adjacent to the droid mark. You can also put a ton of battle droids all within 6 squares so they can attack and combine fire with Super Battle Droids and other characters. Let your opponent come to you. If you are playing gambit then make your way to the center of the board and let your opponet come to you.
Combos with other miniatures:
X1-Viper and Wat (in my opinion) are the best combo in the game. The X1 has good hit points and it is huge, so it has plenty of room to hide behind. Also the molecular shielding makes a 50% chance that they are going to have their shots fired right back at them. Also due to Wat's low hit total a couple body guards are always a good idea. Use the droid body guard, and a repair them every turn. Grievous SC and Battle Droid Officer are also great figures to run with Wat, as they will help those reinforcments, as will Super Battle Droid Commander. If you want to be real brave throw in San Hill and/or Nute and out activate your opponent.
Ways to counteract it:
Droid Mark ends at the start of the next round, so a great way to counter Wat is to win the initiave. Thrawn will guarantee it. Several characters will help you win. Once you get the initiative, have a couple accurate shooters take Wat out first. He is only 30 hit points so he will go down fast.
Strengths/Pros:
Like everything we have said so far, Wat is awesome. He is a 15 point piece that gives you repair 20 and Droid Mark. If you are running a sep droid army Wat and the Battle Droid Officer better be in your squad.
Weaknesses/Cons:
Like I said if you don't win the initiave, Wat could be killed. He is only 30 hit points and will be the first one targeted by your opponent.
Artwork and aesthetics:
The sculpt is great too. He looks ready to "Crush You"
Overall rating:
If you build your squad, and play it correctly Wat could be the most important piece in the game. He does something that most other pieces in the game don't do... Wat almost single-handedly made the seps playable. Given all we have talked about today I would have to give him a 9 out of 10. Had he been given more hit points he would be a 10 out of 10.
