This is for a7xfanben’s Random Set-up Tables fleet challenge. Enjoy!

France and Spain, throughout history, have been enemies but mostly allies, joining together up to the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. Both navies of these nations have seen their best and worst days, but they have produced some really good ships for this game. On a tight budget, they can produce good gold runners and capable gunships. With that in mind, pooling their ships together gets a pretty good combination.

I decided with two-mast ships because they can take a hit from Odin's Revenge and not be knocked out & also because they can’t be taken out by a lone ram attempt.

1. L’Intrepide
A cheap, capacious gold runner with great speed represents the French side of the alliance. An explorer complements the ship, and additional fighting crew can be picked up to take it to the opposition.

2. El Algericas
One of the best small gunships for the Spanish, El Algericas combines good cannons with great speed and a low point cost.

Jade, Odin’s Revenge, Spices, and Rum are the UT’s I picked out for this fleet. Jade and Spices increase the value of a coin on L’Intrepide, Rum is a big money maker, and Odin’s Revenge will knock out most ships in this challenge.

Pairing Fortaleza Dorada and Paradise de la Mer gives you a deadly and defensive combo to deter most ships away from your area.

Thanks for reading!

Nice fleet. The restrictions are difficult to get around, but the ships you've chosen are some of the best at their size. The Intrepide should be able to get to an island and take most of the good coins, while the Alg. will be able to keep pace or a-hunting the opposing fleet's runners, which in this challenge, will be of a comparable size, enabling you to sink them on the first go if you're lucky.

I like your UT selections, but Rum will stall you for a turn before you can get going again, and at this size, losing a turn could be the difference between winning and loosing.

Hard not to go with the ships chosen here. It's an effective fleet at this level, but I can't give a 5 until you add an oarsman to one of the ships. (no reason not to, might as well optimize!)

If you put Luis Zuan on the Algeciras, you would have points and point cap space to add oarsmen to both ships!
