This fleet is for Volt's Spooky Deathmatch fleet challenge.

quote:
A royal proclamation of the Spanish Crown---

The man calling himself "Inquisitor" has betrayed the Imperial Crown and the Holy Church, having taken into his possession the Episcopi Lapis and Cathedral Mare, vessels provided to the Societas Jesu by the Crown for the furthering of the Holy Church on earth, having allied himself to the notorious pirate "Phantom" and the son of the Zuan Pirates, Luis, and having furthermore taken in the ensuing battle our ships Valiant and Hope, as well as an experimental flotilla.

Do not spare "Phantom" or his crew. Bring "Inquisitor" and Zuan (and any God-fearing Spaniards who have fallen into this catastrophe) alive if reasonable.

The "Inquisitor" in question laughed at the bloody parchment. Admiral de Riviera--the man sent after them--was dead; Inquisitor and Phantom had seen to that. His men that lived were thrown to Phantom's pets or tossed on the Grinder--as Phantom called the stolen steamer. Zuan was likewise. They had brought back his corpse for Phantom's amusement. Phantom was genuine (as his puppet "Sammy" proved), and if anyone could defeat the Cursed, it would be one of their own.

What the crown could not understand was that Inquisitor was no traitor. Yes, he might be working with an enemy of the crown, but the crown and Phantom both held a grudge against Davey Jones. If they were not willing to fight the real enemy... Then Inquisitor would. If they stood in his way... Inquisitor would go through them.

He took another sip of the blood-red wine the Phantom had brought from de Riviera's stores. Let them despair--the new name for the Hope was most fitting--while he finished what Jones started.

"No price is too high," he laughed.

The Fleet:
El Cristal del Obispo is the primary warship of this fleet. In addition to light armor, she has a Captain for basic competence. She specializes in boarding, combining +1 to boarding and crew elimination. What's more terrifying than losing all of your crew? Losing all your crew in one fell swoop!

The Grinder (representing a captured Valeroso) and La Catedral del Mar serve as support gunships. While slow, La Catedral has the fitting Fear ability. (To be more competitive, one could use Asesino de la Nave instead, but what's the fun in that? It's not "inquisitorial" red.) The Grinder may attempt to ram thanks to her ability, but it's still risky and should only be used opportunistically.

While La Desesperanza is too expensive to see play in most cases, she's fast and a ghost ship. While Ghost Ship isn't likely to see much use (sorry Volt), her speed makes her a great flotilla tower. The Armada has decent firepower and a great ability, so it was chosen over the Diablo. The combination of mobility, firepower, and range is hard to counter--provided those 3S cannons hit.

Any reason for not having the full 13 masts?

It seems to me you could use either version of Sammy the Skull, but I guess you want Fantasma for thematic reasons.

I miscounted how many masts I had.

Originally, Fantasma was my only source of Ghost Ship. I will consider changing.

Whoops, I forgot about that restriction. Though yeah, with the Desesperanza you could possibly make it better for gameplay while still having a "spooky" named captain.

Tough to pick between a 4 and a 5 for this one. The theme is great, except for the Ghost Ship. From a gameplay standpoint the Inquisitor might end up being a waste of points, and two of your ships move slower than S+L. 4 for now, I might raise it if the fleet does well.

Impressive showing, the Cristal should be a force to reckon with, as should the Armada with S+S range and a killer ability. Like you said, provided your cannons hit, this should be a fleet to contend with.
