This pirate fleet was designed to take advantage of a few things that most people would consider weaknesses. Needless to say the surprise value is kinda nice. First off, the fact that you are using Venture and Carrion Crow has the veterans rolling their eye’s at you. But a Venture carrying the Hag of Tortuga cannot be captured, and so she will seldom be worth more than a point. The Carrion Crow is an escort, and can go with any of the other three ships depending on the situation. La Victorie is the gun ship (and mermaid fodder) and can prove to be a nice distraction while the other three go to town. The five points for the Hag do not need to be chosen until the set-up phase which will allow things like Favor of the Gods if your opponent is using events, or more useful things if she is not. The standard configuration is Hidden Cove, and Foul Winds, although sometimes Mermaids is the better choice.

    Very clever. If Venture sinks, you lose the +5 from the Hag, but 4 of those points were tied up in Venture, so you only have to dump 1 more point. 'course if your opponent has a crew killer and Venture is pulling front line duty, the Hag might die before Venture gets sunk, and then you WILL have to get rid of 5 points.

    I also like the idea of using the +5 from Hag to buy your events. If the other players don't have any, get Hidden Cove instead of FotG. Gotta remember that little trick.

    I'm not 100% sure of this, so I'll phrase this as a question, rather than a statement-- can't Hag be captured by Barbaross and/or the Jade guy? Granted, you don't see those guys all too often, but you made an unqualified statement (Hag cannot be captured) and I just wanna split hairs in the interest of finding the truth...

    In the standard fashion (derelict and take) the BOAT cannot be captured. The other crew member ability you mentioned is the only way the HAG can be, thus I said she would seldom be worth more than a point.

    I still think that it is silly that her removal constitutes the loss of 5 points....like the crew will suddenly jump overboard or something. Regardless, the events will have been spent more than likely before she is croaked.

    Gentlemen-

    I am not sure that you are reading the Hag of Tortuga's ability correctly. The card states that you may build your fleet using 5 more points than the fleet total. It does not say that you have to give up those 5 points if she is killed or captured.

    I have never seen a Privateer ruling that indicates that these points are jeopardized.

    If you have, I would love to know where.
