This is my version of the Norvegia build. Very fast and very effective.

(The REAL mean fleet mentioned by Aprilbooks! Used in only one tournament but won three games straight at 16-0 each. I probably will NOT use it again -- unless in a VERY serious competition -- because it is SO effective!)

Send the Neptune's Horde to the nearest wild island, eliminating a crew going and coming back to home island. Trade away low point coins along the way. Send the Star of Siam to the next closest wild island eliminating a crew along the way, trade away low cost coins, and build a fort. Send the Banshee's Cry to the 3d closest wild island (may not be necessary!) and build a fort.

Events are not normally played at our venue. If they were, I'd trade out Divers and a Hemsman from the Star of Siam, add an Oarsman to the Star and pick up the event "Favor of the Gods."

All the unique treasure should help increase the value of total gold (and doesn't take up hold space.)

A couple additional notes: The speed of this fleet is phenomenal. With the SAC, the Neptune’s Horde will get to an island 4 2/3 L away and the Star of Siam (with helmsman) 5 L away-- both on the first turn, and on the 2d turn (no SAC) the Banshee’s Cry 5 1/3 L. [You can’t count on your opponent giving you 3L placement on your islands!] Also Lucky the Parrot (besides being cheap SAC fodder) allows for you to check out your opponents crew.

I mentioned this fleet in my "intro" with my 40 pt English fleet with treasure. "REAL mean" is the most polite adjective I could come up with. I was second player and never even got to have a second turn. It took longer to set up the game than it did to play it! Not a fleet to be used often or with newbies or the unsuspecting.

I'm not sure how to rate it -- 5+ for effectiveness. A minus 10 zillion if I have to play against it again.

This is a darn good fleet. I use a similar strategy in the first two turns. Now my question is how do you defend your forts for the rest of the game. The hoard and the star ain't exactly forces to be reckoned with. And people tend to team up on you after you take most of the gold in the second turn ;)

Response to shawnallers: This is partially hypothetical and partially from experience. I only played this fleet in one tourney, but I have played other fast, treasure fleets. I've never really had a problem with that. The forts are usually placed at the time when it wins the game for me. It's rare that I have to place a second fort due to high gold values. When I get 16 gold, including that in the fort, the game is done. The fort so far has been able to hold out the extra turn it may take the Banshee's Cry to get to another island and buld the 3d fort. The only problem is making sure you have enough gold at home to build it. I haven't needed to, but you can move gold from the 1st fort to build the second -- just leave enough in the fort to pay for it's initial build.

Its surely true, this is one of the fleets to beat if gaming gets "serious".
But even playing this fleet is no guaranteed win-it will help to be the starting player....then playing fotg should be the first action.
Placement of islands is the key to victory or loss.
The forts will almost never be threatened....game will end too fast unless "negativetrasures" spice up the game.

THIS FLEET IS ONE OF THE BEST FLEETS I HAVE PLAYED AGINST IT HAS ALL THE NEEDS OF SKILL AND SPEED TO TAKE OUT YOUR OPPONENT AND GET THE GOLD HOME TO BUILD FORTS! THE CREW USED IN THIS IS MAKES FOR GREAT BONUS AND ALL I CAN SAY IS GAME OVER (LETS PLAY ANOTHER)
