First and foremost, great challenge darrin!
Secondly...
LONG LIVE DAVY JONES!!
Okay, with that said Davy Jones unfortunatley must watch from the sidelines on the Flying Dutchman for this challenge.
...But I do get to use my favorite Pirates piece.... RAPTOR MAW
The main emphasis for this fleet is on getting the winning amount of gold, getting back home, placing a fort on other islands(stealing the islands remaining gold), and hopefully being able to sink any vessel that tries to attack.
The treasure runner for this fleet is the DarkhawkII. Blackheart is on it allowing it to become cursed along with a helmsman and explorer. Even after the crew are added there are five cargo spaces left for treasure. It has good base-movement with the halmsman onboard and can more than likely outrun most other threats that the cursed have. Its cannons are also decent allowing it to fight if it is absolutely necessary.
The second ship or rather creature in the fleet is the Raptor Maw. This is the "decoy" of the fleet. It will be able to attack and destroy all small treasure runners with its swoop attack, and hopefully be able to help block enemy ships from getting near the Darkhawk. Its unlimited base movement will help with this is that it will simply get in between the enemy vessel and my treasure runner. It cannot be pinned so I am free to constantly move around and try to keep the Darkhawk II safe as long as it has at least one body segment left.
I avoided the use of small treasure runners in the attempt to thwart any Sea Dragon Swoop-Attacks stopping the runner in its tracks. And the forts are an attempt to be able to control the islands with gold remaing on them after I have made one visit to a wild island, gone back to my home island, and then back out to the unexplored islands to lay down the forts and steal the islands gold for myself.
I also threw in the events Foul Winds and Divers. Foul Winds will either allow me to easily sink one mast ships as they approach their home island to unload their treasure or just to stop them from getting to an island to retrieve gold or allow me to help keep an enemy away from my treasure runner. Divers is to steal all the gold that a ship has that I have sunk with Raptor Maw. And Raft is there in the off chance that my treasure runner is sunk and carrying gold.
The unique treasure Curse of Davy Jones is an attempt to allow me to be able to take out the enemy ship with a little more ease, with the +1 to dice rolls against the ship carrying the curse. I added Turtles to the mix because it is TURTLES and is amazing(well at least I think so)! This also makes it so that the gold coins that are placed have a higher face value to allow it to take less coins needed to win the game.
All in all it should stand a fight. The cursed are hard to build a good 40 pt. gold runnig fleet with. Fortunately their is the blackmark to allow other to become cursed, thus allowing for one of the biggest cargo ships to be played as a cursed vessel.
This was a difficult challenge indeed. It was hard to try and find a mix of "going for the gold" and being able to fend off the nasty gunships and creatures the Cursed have.
