Fleet "first fleet" Help
Fleet "first fleet" - 45 Points (standard format) show extended format
created by blackpirate81

Hey everyone, this is the first fleet I've made on here. I've been collecting and building since Pirates came out, but have limited playing experience, just my wife and I and friends who come and play w/ my ships. I've had fairly good luck with this fleet, but like I said, that doesn't mean much.

Anyway, I basically send all three ships out together(Jolly Mon stays by my HI and tries not to get sunk). The Bloody Jewel will head towards the closest wild island, slightly ahead of the DH II and Dutchman, explore and head to the next wild island. The DH II heads to the island and cleans it up, and follows the Bloody Jewel. After these two islands, depending on the treasure gathered, either head home or send the Bloody Jewel after more islands.

I don't really try much offensive play, but I like to have the captains and Crimson Angel just in case, and since they both have decent cannons they are pretty good at defending themselves.

Pro's- Large cargo capacity= less trips into harms way
decent cannons with +1 against non-pirates

Con's- I have no events,so I really never had a need for favor of the gods, but mermaids could slow it down a bit,
None of these ships are super fast and I only have one second action crew
No explorer, wasn't sure what to dump to get one, generally rely on size to hold enemy ships off till islands are explored.
I'm sure there are a lot more weaknesses, any ideas are appreciated. Try not to bee to rough on me, like I said this is my first go at this. Thanks.

This is actually a really good fleet, especially if this is your first one!

My suggestions:

Keep the Jolly Mon at your home island, it's not worth it to send it out to its doom.

The Flying Dutchman is crewed very well, I have to say that. S+L movement, rank 2 cannons, and a possible SAT is very good.

The Darkhawk II seems like it's going to be a gunship, but imho would be better served running treasure. That's just me, though.

Good call on the Bloody Jewel, it's a very good ship.

If you're just playing fun games, this is an excellent fleet! If you often play in a cut-throat environment, you're not going to do so well.

Then again, you don't do well unless you have 3 action gunships or Norvegia.

me like this!
This fleet is a good start. My ideas? As vlad says, you should improve the use of actions. Leaving one ship for a turn at a Wild Island is not a good idea. Your opponent will follow you wherever you go, and, as you approach the island, he'll wait you there, and you'll have to choose between being sunk, or approach another island. That's a waste of time...

Anyway, this is a great fleet for friendly waters (family, friends, ecc.). As vlad pointed out, a cut-throat environment like a tournament will probably crush this fleet.

Most of tournament fleet, in fact carry:
*2-3 extra actions (this can be dangerous for your Darkhawk, on wich you rely to win...
*mermaids (they will stop your dutchman long enough to sink him...
*ability that NEED to be cancelled (fear, stinkpot shot or a canceller are good options on this...)

So, my challenge is, read some fleets in this section, and design something made to beat them...it will be great to improve your tactic. No one forbids (is that right in english?) you to play with this fleet whenever you want (i play only Mercenaries with my family ;-)), but you should keep something to fight greatly in larger competitions...

ciao! Fede
