Fleet "Vladsimpaler's Fire & Steel" - 40 Points (standard format) show extended format

Well, I figured that I would follow suit with a pure F&S force, much like Ziotoo and Danomight. (Kudos to Danomight for thinking this up)

Although, if you think about it, Spain didn't really get shafted in F&S if you're playing a sealed match.

Besides Hammersmith, they got the only Helmsman crew. But whatever. This is pure treasure running.

San Pedro moves S+L+S with 2 cargo, and when unloaded, gets +2 to one gold unloaded! Brilliant!

The Augusta moves S+L, but is maneuverable with the schooner keyword, and even better, it can explore islands within S, and make them unexplored to everyone else! Again, brilliant! Since I have no way to increase its speed, I bestowed upon it the Flotilla Armada. Although the Armada only has rank 3 cannons, they have a range of S+S, and as an added bonus, I also eliminate one cargo when it hits!

Even the best opponent will rightfully fear it, for it does some major damage.

The Arrogant, although it's French, is still kind of historical, since the French and Spanish were often allies. So not that big of a deal. The nice thing about the Arrogant is that it's kind of like a turtle ship, and although it's honestly a points sink, it can also do some damage, or harrass the opponent.

Much like Danomight's fleet, I predict this fleet would do extremely well against F&S fleets, although I figure that this fleet wouldn't do as well against fleets made up from all sets.

Edits made to this fleet:
1. Removed two Oarsman, and a Musketeer. Added in the Arrogant. (It seems that for 5 points, it's a steal.)

Actually, I build my FaS fleet as per the guidelines for colringbk's fleet challenge: http://www.miniaturetrading.com/im/forum/viewtopic/t=3664///

Nice work on your fleet, its exactly the type of build that mine could have issues dealing with if our HIs aren't close together.

hi vlad! I knew you couldn't resist making a spanish fleet for this contest...nice!

I like your fleet, especially considering that you have a L+S+S ship, a rarity for FS. Great job!

I have only two pieces of advice for you:
1) the oarsman is unuseful, considering you won't be fighting anyway, i suggest you to throw it away. Especially, think about swapping the one on your HI for a letter of marque, like i did here ( i had the same problem as you ;-))
2) if you really want to waste 3 points and 1 cargo on your San Pedro, consider adding a captain instead of a musketeer: an extra cannon has no use if you don't get the first shot. If spain (like some nations) didn't get any captain, why don't you use one of those pesky pieces of equipment (for example the exploding shot)?

Think about it ;-)

And great job! You took a 4 from me ;-)

The problem is Spain didn't get any captains in Fire and Steel and the contest stipulates that you can only use Fire and Steel crew and ships.

True, but the problem is, how are you going to fit him in. I mean, he's 8 points!

I'm assuming you edited this fleet? It appears so from the comments.

Anyway, this is awesome! Great use of speed to overcome the slow gunships of F&S. AND, I think this fleet would do just fine against mixed-sets fleets, too, not just F&S. These ships would stay out of the reach of the other ships. I also like the use of Armada. Thats cool.

I agree with the uselessness of the Oarsman (at least the one on your HI--what is he going to do? Row his boat out to your derelict? ). But, I am also at a loss about what to do with the 2 points. So, maybe if you got rid of the Musketeer (this is purely a treasure running fleet, so fighting should not be an option) as well, you would have 5 points to spend which leaves you with:

Jeux

Arrogant

USS Destiny

I think my math is right, but check that it becomes 40 from all that.

Hahah, looks like I'm going to add in the Arrogant, just like pretty much every single other fleet.
