Hi all!
Here's my attempt to create something good using only FS.
Firstly, since i was already running out of ideas, i decided to start using one of the nations that got shafted in the last sets: England.
England didn't got an eternal crew, nor parley. To be honest, they don't get good ships since OE, i think. They don't have any Sea Dragon...but they have Lord Mycron... I put Mycron on the cheapest possible ship: 12 points are really a lot, but, after all, only 3 abilities in FS provide an extra action, so, if playing only FS, Mycron is a good choice.
Then i decided to go with one of the new pieces: since FS ships aren't at the level of the ones from the other sets, i decided to create something using either a Bombardier or a Switchblade. And since i had only 28 points, and many nations didn't got a cheap captain in FS, i chose Draconum, with a captain that could provide a nice ability: it's Chris Moody, a crew that also allows to remove all crew when you win a boarding party. Just in case the boarding didn't go well, i added an oarsman to sacrifice if you roll bad. Lastly, since Draconum only moved L (+L with Mycron!) i added an English Letter of marque equipment to have parley, that guarantees the first shot. I picked the english equipment, but you can choose the one that fits better your opponent's gunship
With the last 7 points, i decided to pick 1 treasure runner, and i discovered that the best FS ship for our budget is the Jeux, that moves L+S each turn if he carries no cargo...not so good, but if we compare it with any other runner in FS, we discover it's far over the average speed and cargo ;-)
SO, you have: a Bombardier that can move L and dish out 4 shots, and a runner that moves L+S...
not so good, but considering you have Lord Mycron that can boost their move or give Draconum 4 extra shots, ths fleet suddendly becomes somehow better, and, since today i'm optimistic, i think it could win also with some of the weakest mixed-sets fleets.
A good start for beginners who began wasting their money on FS ;-)
ciao! Fede
note: i think an "equipment" section should be added to the armies editor...
