Fleet "Pirates demonstration fleet" - 40 Points (standard format) show extended format
created by ziotoo4 Premium Member

Hi all! We continue with our demo fleets, made to do some demostrations in your venue! Bring in some cool ships and a couple of fleets to drag new peoples and new potential hard players. This will cause a grow in the number of players at your venue, wich means more trades and interesting strategies.

This is the Pirates fleet, should be used with Davy Jones and EIC fleet.

Once again, with 40 points we get two ships: the fast treasue runner "Hai Peng" and the Black pearl, that thanks to the captain gets a boost in speed and in her cannons. Black pearl also gets the parley keyword, to balance her with the mighty Endeaavour.

A lot of fun, and of playability. Still, for the second game, you should introduce new ships and keywords from past sets!
Notice that all demo fleets use different play tactics, so that player will get a glimpse on the wonderful tactics of this game.

With this fleet, wich brings cool ship from Jack Sparrow's motion picture, you'll bring in new players, or, at least, give some fun to other people.

ciao! fede

I'm not a big fan of this one. Hai Peng with no captain? I'm not sure I like that in a demo fleet... I would think I'd want to teach new players on how to optimize the abilities on Hai peng, and not putting a Captain on it feels... just wrong.

Also, if Hai Peng is the treasure runner, why would you put Parley on the gunship? And I'm not sure I'd want to teach a game to beginners to start with... seems like it would be confusing to new players. I'd want to emphasize the fun things like shooting and bringing home treasure without throwing decisions at them like, "so I can give up gold to avoid being shot?" That's actually a fairly complicated tactical decision, and many new players get confused that shooting things is how you win the game, and can get frustrated when someone else wins because they collected more gold. Parley would probably muddle that up.

Hi! I do't think parley makes things difficult. Surely, this fleet isn't for tota newbies.
As for Hai Peng, i didn't add the captain because the blck pearl already had a captain boost (so i avoided being repetitive) and not to make things difficult (seeing a captain a newbie would probably think that you want him to shoot with that ship!

If I was teaching new players about the game, I'd want to make sure I got across the main theme: bringing home treasure. Like I said, many new players see all the masts and dice and get the idea that it's a combat game. I'd want to make sure they got the idea that gold-running is more important than combat.

Introducing Parley as an ability might create a lot of confusion, and particularly for beginners in introduces a tactical question that requires a lot more thought: is it a good idea to give up gold to avoid being shot at? As an intermediate or advanced player, this adds tactical complexity to the game, because there will be situations where Parley is a good idea and where it isn't. For a beginning player, it would confuse the message of "gold running is more important than combat".

Of course, that's not the only way to play the game. Free-for-alls and Last Captain Standing can be just as fun. That's part of why I like the game so much... it's more like a toolbox full of interesting bits, you can put them together in different ways and design your own scenarios.
