Fleet "Barbary Cookpot"

I came up with this fleet a few years ago after getting smashed repeatedly by a Harbinger/Blackheart/Calypso combination. We were having a "winner stays" 40-pt. competition, and no one could beat the combo, even though most of his points were allocated to this one ship.

My idea was to mob the Harbinger as quickly as possible with as many ships as possible. The use of the firepots would hopefully allow the damage to continue to accrue even if (likely) my engaging ships were to be sunk or left behind by a whirlpool "gate".

Unfortunately, I never got a chance to use the fleet against him, as I wasn't on MTO at the time and still don't have all of the minis. I know it's not a balanced list, I just made it to take out that specific fleet. It may well have been better without the Winds and a couple of captains instead. Just a different kind of list. Let me know what you think.

I don't see how the ships could survive without captains. A large gunship with EA/SAT could take out 8 masts in one turn. Move-and-shoot is too essential to ignore, although the concept is interesting.

I concur with a7xfanben. Captains are like the basic essence of a gun fleet. if you lack them, you will lose almost every game. Gosh...

Fleet 904. Makes me wonder if we will ever get to 1000. I mean it is after all kinda a old game. Can people hold on to their interest that long? Seems like when pirates loses interest, MT will be dormant.....

We will get to 1000. That will be a good day for MT.

Probably need captains to have any chance of success, but Kheir-ed-din might be all that's needed in the situation described - I've found the best way to beat Calypso is to use her whirlpools against her, having a ship, preferably a rather large one in the case of the Harbinger combo, with an extra action crew aboard ready to slide through a whirlpool behind her and hoping for the best.

The success of this fleet realy depends on who get's the first shot. If this Corsair fleet is able to get the better part of her ship's shooting at the Harbinger and severly damage her or even sink her before the Harbinger can fire, then this fleet is pretty much home free. All of these ships do fairly well in the treasure running department so after they take out the gunship, they probably got he game in the bag (depending on the opponents gold runners).

With no captains in this fleet, the first shot will always go to the Harbinger unless that opposing player does something really boneheaded. Even clustering your ships together won't help because Harbinger can simply maneuver itself to a position where the only ship that could shoot back is the one it's about to attack.

With five masts available, Harbinger has plenty of time to duck into a whirlpool and run home. (If it's the SM version, it could simply smash one of your ships and take it home directly.)

The description and design of this fleet implies that it's a deathmatch, but if this was a standard game the best course of action for this fleet would be to ignore Harbinger entirely and focus entirely on treasure-running. There's no way Harbinger could catch all of these ships in time to prevent them from taking the majority of the gold.

Oh its a deathmatch game? The 40 points threw me off because most treasure running games are 40 points and deathmatches are normaly 100. Sorry I didn't see that.

It doesn't say one way or the other so I really don't know for sure if it is or not, but with so much focus put on taking out that opposing ship and no mention whatsoever of treasure, I'm assuming it's for a deathmatch.

It could be one of those "unannounced" deathmatch games where everyone just ignores the gold and fights instead.
