In this rather unorthodox fleet, a selection of events and the sea dragon Anglica function to stall for time so that the seemingly insignificant ship Ahura Mazda can work her magic. This vessel lacks any redeeming qualities except for a special ability that boosts the value of a treasure by two each time it unloads to your home island.
Here then is how I envision this fleet working (I have yet to play test it).
A.
In setup, try to maximize the distance between your home island and your opponents. On your first turn, use Hidden Cove to move Banshee’s Cry to the nearest wild island. (She is not equipped with an explorer because said piece needs a move action to work and docking with Hidden Cove does not qualify as a move action.) Using the unlimited movement of your sea dragon, immediately begin harassing your enemy’s treasure runners. Send out Bloody Jewel towards the next closest wild island. Leave Ahura Mazda docked at your home island.
B.
Use Becalmed to strand your opponent’s treasure runners and Mermaids to hinder their best gunship, then pick them off at your leisure with Angelica. (Yes, I love my events!)
C.
When Banshee’s Cry returns, position her so that she touches Ahura Mazda instead of docking at your home island. Each turn, explore Ahura Mazda to give her a treasure to unload for a +2 bonus. Since Banshee’s Cry brought back four treasure coins (barring the possibility that she found a unique treasure), that is +8 gold that you can earn from the bonus in four turns. Assuming that you average at least a base value of two on those four coins, you will have the 16 you need to win the game. If you get unlucky and Banshee’s Cry either hits a negative UT or brings back obscenely low value treasure (or both), Bloody Jewel should be able to save the day with an additional load of treasure.
Miscellaneous Comments and Suggestions:
Angelica is perfect for disemboweling enemy gunships since it is equipped with a crew elimination ability.
I’m currently planning a fleet that will incorporate the “trade treasure” ability into a single runner to minimize the possibility of a catastrophic run in with a negative unique treasure. Angelica will possibly be swapped for a true gunship so as to offer a more protected vessel for the limit/ransom crew.
