Clone Commander Bacara
written by drunken_bantha

General description:
This is one versatile clone, capable of forming the centrepiece for a number of different squad types, or as I like to use him, as the keystone to a truly chameleon squad. More on this shortly!

Uses:
I tend to use this guy as the basis of my patented and deadly "Ninja Clone" squad...See "Combos..." for suggestions, but focussing on Bacara alone you should look straight at his Commander Effects, the THIRD of which states: "Characters in your squad with Order 66 and Stealth (inc Clone Commander Bacara) who have cover cannot be targeted by nonadjacent enemies". Since Bacara has Stealth and the abilitiy explicitly states so, he is himself UNTARGETABLE when he has cover (except by an adjacent foe)...

Strategies and game play:
I've already quoted the 'keystone ability' of this mini (the-untargetable-if-you-have-stealth-and-order-66 one...) This itself makes for a unique and powerful ability to the mini itself, but obviously others who fit the criteria (again, see Combos.)

However don't forget the useful Cunning Attack ability - you may just take out a character that your opponent has not had the chance to activate (which means they lose the chance to use the character at ALL in that round!)

With just 40 HP you will want to keep Bacara hidden and far away from your opponents forces, I tend to keep a force of clones between Bacara and ALL opponents at ALL times (unless I'm using him as bait...) If you win initiative, use his Cunning Attack on the closest foe you can and then take your 6 steps AWAY, preferably out of sight or to cover at least.

Combos with other miniatures:
Elite clones are an obvious choice - the second commander effect specifies that they now have Stealth, thus making them qualify for the 'untargetable' commander effect (Elite Ninja Clones!)

BUT! These are NOT the best to use! A combination of Republic Commando - Sev and Boss (one or two of each, dependant on points limit) are by FAR superior in my view. They all qualify for the 'hidey hidey' ability, and also work together as a formiddable sub-unit. The Sevs move first and shoot. Then the Bosss take their move, shoot, and then give the Sevs another shot! If the Sevs are already in position to fire on something, use the Bosses first so the Deadeye ability becomes effective.

Add in either a jedi or maybe an Aerial Clone Captain for some variety and added firepower (Again depends on your points limits). I also find Kashyyyk troopers work really well - as to WHY they don't have stealth (they ARE in camo and rather stealthy like to me) I HAVE NO IDEA!
Anything that gave mobile attack would be great since you could dip out and back into cover and take a shot in between.

Ways to counteract it:
Kill the living bantha snot out of him as soon as possible - send in a squad of two or three (a jedi and some droids perhaps) and try to get that sucker dead as soon as possible - hopefully your opponent gets a little too confident or maybe they get stuck out of cover one turn. It should be all you need - use force points to get there if you must - but shell 40 points up on that sucka as fast as you can. Then you'll actually be able to SEE the other guys and go about toasting them.

The alternative is to play into Bacara's hand, and gradually meet each of his allies by sneaking around and using cover, and nipping away at each one wherever possible. This usually requires a stupid opponent, so it may not be within your power to do so...

Strengths/Pros:
Commander effect to base an entire squad around, helpful other commander effects and decent abilities. Good Damage rating tho you're not likely to get many shots off with him if you're playing him properly and keeping him safe. Attack is pretty decent at +10 especially if you get the Cunning Attack bonus. Defense of 14 fine as you would hopefully not keep him out in the line of fire!

Weaknesses/Cons:
Weak as, should have 50 or 60 hit points I reckon, even for another few squad points. Besides his commander effects, not a very functional member of your squad, tends to be kept out of the action for much of his own use. This can be changed with gameplay, simply use him last and HOPE for good initiative rolls!

Artwork and aesthetics:
Pretty decent art work / aesthetics, tho not the best of the various clones. Around mid - high level aesthetics.

Overall rating:
Considering playability, versatility, rarity vs desire and aesthetics all together, I would give ratings as follows (7) playability ( versatility (7) rarity for usefulness / desirability (7) aesthetics (7)
TOTAL RATING: 7.2 / 10
