Crimson Gem of Cyttorak
"A Human Juggernaut?" ... Really??

General description:
"... shall become forevermore a human juggernaut" Really? With this card? I mean REALLY??

Lets take a look at this "Juggernaut" card shall we. First, you give up 5 points of your build for this card. Now for the fact you get 3 powers and a bonus of +1 to damage that is all well and good ... till you look at things a might more carefully. Now, after you give up 5 precious points of the game, you find out that you only have a 'CHANCE' to actually get to use your 5 points. You get a one shot attempt for the whole game at getting to actually equip the card (on a '5' or '6' on a d6) per figure, and to top it all off your opponent can beat you to it as well. Then on top of being down those 5 points the whole game, your opponent is suddenly up that amount too. Taking a look at things from a more temperamental and comic accurate standpoint, I personally do not count Charge, Super Strength, and Toughness as equating to "Juggernaut" status. I don't care what way you try and sell it. Charge and SS are fine yes, but Toughness? As Juggernaut? REALLY? Come on. Even the wimpy versions of Juggernaut still have Invulnerability or Impervious, despite his actual numbers. And only a +1 to damage? Should have been a +1 across the board if you ask me, to say nothing of the fact a +2 to damage might have been more realistic. Now I am not saying that for 5 points I should get all that I am saying here, but I for one would be glad to pay double the cost even for what I am talking about - as long as again we are not talking only a MAYBE to get to use it either. I am not above even saying that the object must be assigned a figure for which it is intended and anyone else, friend or foe, that tries to pick up the object has to go the "maybe" route. If it were up to me I would have called this thing the "Counterfeit Crimson Gem of Cyttorak". Oh well, at least they did a good job on the sculpt. I intend to make an adjustment to this card for my own house games basically using what I describe above. As far as tourny use, this baby is gonna sit on the sidelines.

Uses:
Have not used it yet, see above why.

Strategies and game play:
I like the idea of special objects like this, and I don't mind paying for them, but to pay for something I only MIGHT get to use is not something I ascribe to at all.

Combos with other miniatures:
Its combos are obvious.

Ways to counteract it:
The fact you can only MAYBE get it is sufficient in my opinion in this regard.

Strengths/Pros:
It does give some characters the additional ability to affect characters they could not otherwise.

Weaknesses/Cons:
See above.

Artwork and aesthetics:
It is a neat sculpt and quite accurate for all that.

Overall rating:
Maybe a 3 or 4 depending on the force I was gonna run it with.

I agree that spending 5 points on something you may not get to use and your opponent may get to use (a 10 point swing) is not tactically sound.

This goes in the category with event dials.

I would probably only use the Gem in scenario games where the point cost is not absorbed by any player.

I would have to agree that the only use of this item would be in a scenario where it is an item that does not affect the build of those shooting for it.
