General description:
Missionary is basically a one-time Plague.

Missionary is used as any other unique treasure would be.

Strategies and game play:
Missionary is a big anti-crew strategy. If your opponent is one that relies heavily on a big gold-runner with lots of crew (e.g. La Joya Del Sol with Master Bianco & company) then Missionary can ruin his/her day like a bunch of you-know-who's knocking on your door on Christmas morning with "free" magazines.

Combos with other miniatures:
Missionary is a great addition to a "*beep* you" treasure build along with things like Fruit, Plague, Scurvy, Rats, etc.

Ways to counteract it:
Apart from being able to peek at treasure to avoid it there's nothing you can really do to counteract it since it's a unique treasure.

- Kills crew... dead
- Costs nothing towards your build
- Goes off once and then it's gone; it's not a "hot potato" like Plague

- Since it's a unique treasure it's just as likely to affect you as it is your opponent

Artwork and aesthetics:
The little monk reminds me of Friar Tuck which reminds me of Rocket Robin Hood which is never a bad thing.

I have this as part of a treasure set up that includes:

Needless to say, the only way I ever explore an island is AFTER my opponent has. Otherwise I just build a fort to avoid all exploration by ships.

I retract this message due to the fact that I have been corrected. Explore actions are required before any cargo may be unloaded to a wild island.

The difference between removing crew from the game and eliminating crew makes this much more dangerous than just a one-time-use Plague.

This was obviously written before Jailhouse Dog was added to the game, but there were a few other ways to counteract this that were available at the time. Trading it to another island is a big one that appeared in the very same set as Missionary. Another option is to explore using ships that don't carry any crew so the effect of this UT is negated.
