Doombox

Miniature text:
Flotilla. Printed cannon ranges are doubled.

The Doombox was stolen by Captain Mysion from an English port before it ever went to sea. Before every raid he has his name inscribed on each cannon ball to be rained upon the enemy.

The dumbbox

General description:
A flotilla is a fort that sits in the water and not on land. In a death match having to move (using towing) is just not practical and in a gold game a gold runner is done and gone by the time you chug over.

Uses:
I would almost never use this piece, but I might it if I were fighting a slow enemy/ gold ship with a max base speed S+L.

Strategies and game play:
To really use a flotilla (in a gold game) you would have to tow it out to an island and drop it off which takes up time, a ship, and 7 points. In my opinion it is a pointless piece that will really never be used.

Combos with other miniatures:
You can tow it with a heavy guns ship and use it like 4 extra canons. This would be especially strong when it is towed by a titan, which would eliminate its blind spot.

Ways to counteract it:
As the flotilla can't move (only by towing) just stay out of its S+S range canons and next turn move in and ......"BOOM"

Strengths/Pros:
The Flotilla can shoot when derelict so to really kill it you must hit it 4 times: 2 for the flag and 2 for the base. Which means they are immune to 1,2,and 3 mast ship. And if your ship dies in the process of killing it it can repair its flag in one turn!

Weaknesses/Cons:
It has to be towed to go anywhere and its point cost of 7 just isn't worth the hassle of having to tow after tow to get it in the right spot.

Artwork and aesthetics:
The art work on the doom box is not very interesting, but a skull and crossbones on the side panel are cool and the sparkles give it a nasty touch. The shape of the flotillas is exceptionally cool do to the 4 guns and flag.

Overall rating:
I would give this flotilla an overall rating of 5/10, not very good.

Historical Curiosity:
I have never seen a vessel in the world that has ever taken the shape of a flotilla.

hmmm...flotillas are cooler than you think. They have double range, and they can be towed by fast, little ships! For example, you could bring in a Banshee's cry towing this ship, and you would have 4 S+S cannons that move L+L (flotillas don't reduce movement). You can use them to escort your treasure runner, and using crew that gives + 1 cargo you culd also carry one crew on her...not so bad at all!
ciao! fede

But flotillas can't move and shoot! It would be easy to kill the flotilla. You move outside the flotillas range, and it is then towed in to attack you, but it can't shoot. On your turn, you move and ram the "fast" ship and kill the flotilla. If the Gold runner - flotilla tries to escape, pursue and kill.

Using that crew that gives +1 to cargo is 3 points, Banshee's Cry- 3points, and captain- 3points + flotilla 7 points. Thats 16 points!!! With that price you could get a better moving ship! Plus, if the Banshee's Cry dies the flotilla is a sitting duck!
