Tepant
The ship that Never says Die!

written by captain_arrr

General description:

In Rise of the Fiends, France got a pretty short stick. They received no rare ships which means no Flotillas, no 1 masted treasure runners (But they don't need anymore) and no more 5 masted Warships (would have been nice to have one more). But they made up for it with this new beauty. Eternal, decent guns all with a small price tag of 11 points!

Uses:

This ship is strictly a warship, plain and simple. She doesn't have enough cargo to even think about treasure running, nor does she have the speed to consider such an endeavor. Her only role is to go on the offensive, confident in the knowledge that if she is sunk, she'll pop back at her Home Island!

Strategies and game play:

Annihilate! Kill! Kill! That's what this ship's strategy should be. But don't just throw her in there pell meel. Have some back up with her too. And with a base cost of 11 points, it will be really easy to scrounge up a backup ship. Hopefully something with L range cannons since the Tepant has none.

Combos with other miniatures:

Unfortunately here, the low cost of the Tepant, along with only 3 cargo spaces, means you are limited in what you can crew her with. Some crew you have to have is someone with a captain ability, and a Helmsman. You cannot leave without these. An Oarsman is a very good idea since people will try and tow it since it has the Eternal keyword.

After that, it depends totally on playing style. Here are a few combos though:

Captain, Helmsman, Gentil Barbinais, oarsman- A good standard combo. Your fitted for war, your cannons are improved, and you can limp away if need be.

Jordan Dumas (BC Ver.), helmsman, canoneer, Oarsman- another version for the one above, using rerolls instead of a world hater.

Captain, Helmsman, Captain Gaston de St. Croix, Oarsman, Josephine Godiva This gives you a double action and a reroll for St. Croix. Very Deadly.

Captain, Helmsman, Lenoir, Oarsman- Never undersetimate the power of parley!

Ways to counteract it:

The best way to counter this ship is to derelict it and then tow it back to your HI. If you can sink it and you think it won't come back to do anymore damage, then that is a possibility.

Strengths/Pros:
Eternal
4 masts
11 points 3 ranks cannons

Weaknesses/Cons:
No L range cannons
L movement
not rank 2 cannons

Artwork and aesthetics:
The colors aren't the first ones I would choose to go together, and the sails are slightly blah, but overall it doesn't hurt the eyes that much.

Overall rating:
8 out of 10. I just wish it was faster and had slightly better cannons!

This ship is a great cost effective warship for the French! I heartily agree with your 8/10 given the speed and the cannons; it would be a 10 if it were all 2's and S+L. Nice title as well, quite creative and fun. A doctor or a crew that prevents crew from being eliminated would be invaluable on the Tepant, as it would suffer if its crew were destroyed. A crew that makes it ghostly would be amazing, as it could never be towed. As I'm currently focusing on my French fleet, I might have to try to get this ship.
