Pandora's Box
If Its Ticking, Don't Open It!!

General description:
Yar-Har-Har!, talk about openin' a box o' trouble! A smart sea dog knows better than t' open a box smaller than a treasure chest, but a curious swabbie canna resist.
If yer game be about gettin' together an' havin' fun, then this be th' booty fer ye. If ye like t' be havin' strategy an' know what ye be havin' in yer fleet (an' like t' keep 't) then maybe ye better look somewhere else. This treasure be a creative, fun way t' li'en up a game, turn th' tides, an' give a wee bit o' control o' how th' game goes fer them that dasn't get this booty.
However, thar be a downside t' th' gameplay. When this unique treasure be revealed, all o' th' other shipmates must contribute a unique treasure t' th' explorer o' this treasure. That means that th' other shipmates need t' be havin' a bounty of unique treasures ready (which I know when I go somewhar t' play Pirates, I dasn't brin' extra unique treasures). Also, 't means that thar be a "time out" so that th' opponents can decide what t' give t' th' explorer, good or bad.

Uses:
Essentially, Pandora's Box works two ways:
1. If you get it, you will probably get stuck with a crippling Unique Treasure from your opponent or opponents (which is really really bad). However, you, in turn, get to put a really really good Unique Treasure in for yourself.
2. If your opponent gets it, have something evil to give your opponent. I mean, after all, you're a Pirate and need to be looking out for yourself.

The best use of Pandora's Box is so that you can sucker punch your opponent. But, there's that small chance that you get Pandora's Box.

Strategies and game play:
This will change the way you play whether or not you reveal it. You could have the power of knowing what weakness your opponent has on a given ship when you give him another bad unique treasure. If you dropped Plague on him, then you'd know that all of his crew is dead and to stay away from him.
But, the biggest downside is if you get it. Know that if you contribute Pandora's Box in the treasure pool, be ready to be the owner of it, as well as any bad Unique Treasure the opponent gives you. So, you'd have to able to turn the bad Unique Treasure into something to use against your opponent.

Combos with other miniatures:
If you reveal it: give yourself a great Unique Treasure to benefit you. Here is a list of some powerful Unique Treasures--Dry Powder, Grease Barrels, Holy Water, Jade, Luddite's Revenge, Neptune's Trident, Neptune's Figurehead, Runes of Speed. There are so many more, but these are some of the unique treasures I like. OR, you can protect yourself from any bad Unique Treasures you'll get by using Kharmic Idol (When revealed, remove all face-up unique treasure from the game. If such a unique treasure changed the value of a treasure coin, that coin regains its printed value).

If you don't reveal it: hit your opponent hard!! Some of the hardest hitting Unique Treasures are Plague, Runes of Death, Scurvy, Map of Hades, Natives, Missionary, and Wet Gunpowder.

If you want to see the list and abilities of the Unique Treasures, use the miniature search list and search only Unique Treasures.

Ways to counteract it:
This relates directly to the list of Unique Treasures above, just flip it. Know what the good Unique Treasures are and what the bad ones are so that you know what to expect.

Strengths/Pros:
Using this Unique Treasure means that you:
1. Can give yourself a powerful Unique Treasure to help yourself out.
2. Can give your opponent a really bad Unique Treasure to hurt him.
3. Can expect this game to be all about having fun. If you put this in the treasure pool, you should just laugh if you get it, instead of huffing and puffing.

Weaknesses/Cons:
This Unique Treasure has 1 great weakness:
This slows the game down. Have you seen the list of Unique Treasures??? Its a ton of them!! You'd have to go through all of your unique treasures to know what to put into the game. And, you'd have to wait for your opponents to do the same. <YAAWWN>
A good way around this is to have the players put in an extra good and bad Unique Treasure to the game, but leave it to the side. When Pandora's Box is revealed, pick up the extra Unique Treasure you want to use. But then, that ruins the surprise that is Pandora's Box.

Artwork and aesthetics:
There are 1000 adjectives to describe the dullness that is the artwork of the Pandora's Box, but I'll keep it limited to one good aspect and one bad aspect.
The good: its plain-ness illustrates the curiosity that the original Pandora must have pondered before unleashing the evilness into the world.
The bad: its just so darn boring.

Overall rating:
4 because it really slows the game down. If it gets the gameplay moving at a good speed, it would get a high rating for creativity and fun.
