Neptune's Trident
A Sea God's Blessing and His Curse

General description:
Lend an 'ear ye land lubber and I be tellin' ye a tale. Back when I's a young lad like ye, jus' got me sealegs battened down, I's aboard the ol' Harbinger. Nae, we'd been takin' a beatin' from those Frenchie Froglegs when we had found a rare treasure, we did--Neptune's Trident. I swear to ye on me ol' peg leg 'ere that the Trident was our savin' grace. Yar! No sooner had we be gettin' the Trident that the Frogs were comin' on our aft quarters, aye, two points off the starboard stern. 'At's when ol Cap', God rest 'is soul, used the Trident and a giant wave, as if Moses parted th' sea, blasted those Boneys. If it weren't for Cap' an' 'is sharp wit, we'd be all down in Davey Jones Locker, singin' a shanty 'bout the time when "we almost got away".

Uses:
Well, this Unique Treasure can make or break you, depending on whether or not you get it. It immediately makes your ship an aggressor, having the ability to cripple large ships and derelict small ships at long range and in any direction. If its on board a small treasure runner and you use it, you'll probably derelict yourself. If its on board a 4 or 5 master, you've got a good chance of hurting the enemy while leaving an opportunity for you to finish off the enemy. Essentially, it can be used for defense and for offense.

Strategies and game play:
If its on a treasure runner: Use it for defense. The enemy will need to keep his distance from you so that it won't take any damage. But know that if you hit more than one ship, you'll probably derelict your treasure runner.
If its on a 4 or 5 mast battleship: Use it as a threat. You can derelict the enemy treasure runners from up to 3 L away, leaving you to pick up the pieces and the treasure. You could also hurt the enemy 5-masters, giving you a one mast advantage over them since they'll lose two masts and you just one (if you hit only one target). Even if you hit several ships, it could change your opponent's strategy, playing a bit more cautious then normal.

Combos with other miniatures:
Extra action captains or Sac Captains work well with this (POSM Blackheart and Admiral Morgan to name a couple). You can move and shoot, then use Neptune's Trident to derelict the rest of your target.
It would do well on ships like POSM Harbinger or POTR Philadelphia or with crew like Commander Temple. Their ability states "You own any derelict this ship explores; both ships become docked at your home island." You can derelict a small ship or a larger, damaged ship from far away, then move in and steal her for your fleet.

Ways to counteract it:
KEEP AWAY!!! If you have the masts, and maybe extra actions, you can move in and take out the owner of the Trident, but you'd better be sure on it. You don't want to move in and try to shoot, only to find out you're too far out of range.

Strengths/Pros:
1. Take out 2 masts from any ship in target area. Yeah, that just might be a small strength (notice the sarcasm).
2. You can shoot from 3 L away and hit something.
3. You can use it in any direction.
4. It forces the opponent to keep his distance.
5. It'll go through escort ships to hit your target ship also.

Weaknesses/Cons:
1. You hurt yourself while hurting others.
2. If you don't have it, you better watch out.
3. If you don't have it, it'll force you to change your strategy.

Artwork and aesthetics:
A mighty arm holding the golden Trident majestically while being enthralled by a rushing wave is an awesome, energetic image to illustrate the power of this Unique Treasure.
I chose this miniature for review because of the artwork mainly, but also because "Trident" is my online gaming name. Probably because of the Will Ferrell SNL skit with Pierce Brosnan in which "You just killed a man with a Trident" is featured (also in Anchorman, one of my fav movies). My friends thought it was a funny and unique name to use.

Overall rating:
If you have it: 9 (would be a 10, but you suffer some damage from using it)
If you don't have it: 3 (at least you realize the opponent gets weakened too)

Great review, gave you a 4. I'm not sure I could rate it a 9, but that's just me. Remember to rate my review.
