General description:
Mr Mxyptlk was revealed to hisses and catcalls as he seemed way too expensive for a limited bag of tricks. Why bother to give him the Superman Foe TA and Outwit? His Special Power move is nearly painful, more dangerous to him than it is worth. It all seems a bit foolish. But in action... he's a fantastic tie-up piece.
Uses:
Too expensive for any game under 500 points, but in the higher point games he can keep the other guy's big guns tripping over their shoelaces.
He can dish out incap with amazing ease... 66% of the time!
Strategies and game play:
The special power Object Animation is close range assault on any fig four squares away that is either on or near hindering (and who isn't in clix?) or on, near or carrying an object. Rolling a three or better with one die, and that figure gets an action token.
So there's some tough hero with his fancy 18 defense in hindering? A three will bead him.
Ways to counteract it:
Mr Mxyzptlk has supersense and an 18DV, making him a little tricky to hit. Once he loses Outwit, he has two clicks of PC -- one of which while still on Supersense -- greatly increasing his odds of escape. The best bet is to try to take him out in single blow, as he's only five clicks deep. To use his power he's going to have get closer than he'd like, but the last thing you want him to do is settle down and start beading your figs with action tokens.
Artwork and aesthetics:
I know the Curt Swan Mxyzptlk best, and this is darker looking imp, a lot more menacing looking with blackend eyes and deep frown. But he'll make you smile as the other guy howls in frustration.
Overall rating:
The Fifth Dimension Imp gets a solid 7 out of 10, dinged because he could have been a tad cheaper without the Superman Enemy TA and it would have made more sense for him to just Phase down his dial without any special gimmicks. He'll be easy for other players to ignore at first before they become aware of just how nasty he can be.
