Lockjaw (Veteran)
Beware of Dog

written by milto

General description:
He's a transporter, so he can carry other non-flyers and attack someone else on his way. With a 3 damage that's no joke. He has phasing so he can get into or out of almost anywhere. He has toughness which makes him a little harder to take out, but combined with his deep dial he is difficult to remove from play.

Uses:
I use this figure to carry Medics or Outwitters or Prob Controllers. I use this figure to base Medics so they can't heal or base figures using Trick Shot so they can't use it. I also use it to stand on a diagonal between two based figures so that my other figure can be healed, move away or use trick shot. Another great use is as clean up. In conjunction with say V Superman, Supes flies 13 and smashes someone with a soda machine for 8 clicks. But somehow the target is still standing. Usually their defense is low at that point. Lockjaw can come in with his 14 movement and finish them off with 3 damage. Keep in mind you cannot use the attack option and phase as they are both separate actions. The figure carried gets placed after the attack and the movement have ended.

Strategies and game play:
A Wizard World Winner startegy was to use a pile of Lockjaws with Nebula (Trick Shot & Stunning Blow)( ICwO on all). Nebula stays behind the dogs and shoots through them incapping and dealing damage. Lockjaws moving in for the kill or retreating to safer ground. I tried this one with some medics to great effect.

Combos with other miniatures:
I've been using this figure with V Supes and E Starter Batman, E Black Cat and some medics. One of my favorites was having Lockjaw carry Batman up to a wall, smash the wall and place Batman down through the new hole in the rubble on the other side where he is in stealth and can outwit from there immediately.

Ways to counteract it:
Do not be fooled. Take this figure out quickly or ignore it. It has low points so is not worth going after, but is easy to heal so if you do attack, finish the job. For instance, Superman would have to attack twice to kill Lockjaw, and for 38 points pushing Superman may not be worth it. Find ways to tie him up. Even though he can phase, he can't use his special transport attack when he is based by an opposing figure.

Strengths/Pros:
Phasing
Transporter attack and taxi
Toughness
Deep Dial
Very healable
good damage
low cost
good moveable LOF blocker
can "swing" around for that extra space of movement

Weaknesses/Cons:
Low defense - when he is attacked he most likely will be hit
low attack - so he must attack weakened foe
difficult to hide, makes a big target
may not always fit where you want in close quarters

Artwork and aesthetics:
He's a handsome dog. The sculpt looks cool. Pretty right on from the comics as far as scale and expression.

Overall rating:
I give this figure a 7. He's not the best one out there but he is definitely above average.

Take yours out for a walk and let him off the leash a bit, don't worry he has enough movement to make it back to you. And if you're lucky he'll bring back a bone...a leg bone!

Subject: Lockjaw and Joker   Posted: January 11, 2007 12:13 am Reply with quote  Report content icon

Another combination for Lockjaw is teaming him with any of the Icon set Jokers. They've been killing me. No joke! (Killing Joke, get it?)

Seriously, Lockjaw tele/transports Joker face to face with your target. Joker's poison slowly drains the target. Joker masterminds any damage off onto Lockjaw. If things get too hot, Lockjaw can bail them out fast.

Add Armor Piercing to Joker to make sure the Poison gets through. Put Nanobots on Lockjaw to recharge his clicks.

Then they jump back into the fray.

(As Joker's outwit and stealth are available, they help out a lot.)

See who laughs last!
