General description:
The Drowned Man is my favorite Cursed Warship. It has excellent guns for the cursed, good speed, and I have always liked the handy (although somewhat expensive) ghost ship ability.
Uses:
With 3s for guns and a cargo of 3, this ship screams warship. That and its 3s for guns, which honestly make the cannoneers of the Drowned Man the Marksmen of the Cursed Fleet! I once used it for deadly effectiveness in a larger game as a flanker. It won't work well as a run and gun ship because of its lack of cargo.
Strategies and game play:
I like to put a Captain and Helmsman on it, then keep it far from the action. And if a warship comes in I ghost it through islands and terrain to hit the flank! Plus in the thick of the battle, you can turn the ship and ghost through other ships to get the guns where you want them and open fire.
Its also handy for taking out pesky little treasure runners that evade you. For this I strongly recommend a Helmsman.
Combos with other miniatures:
A captain and Helmsman seem mandatory for this vessel. I plan on trying Davey Jones on it as well for the ace in the hole I may need. Sammy the Skull seems a bit redundant because with the ghost ship ability, I don't plan on doing much boarding and ramming with it.
Tabitha McWarren opens up the field for crew to use, but with 3 cargo spaces it is best to keep her off unless you have something specific in mind. I personally would use her with a Helmsman and a reroll captain.
Another good idea is to take Tabitha, then a crew like Master Bianco or First Mate Ismail to get another cargo space, then throw on a helmsman, a Captain or equivalent (Reroll captain/ SM Jack Hawkins) and a world hater to make those guns 2s!
Ways to counteract it:
Standard warship tactics work. Though if it has a helmsman, you might need something quick to overtake her. Don't rely on ramming either since it can be ghostly. The best idea is to come up and shoot it.
Strengths/Pros:
S+S base move
3s for guns
ghost ship ability
Weaknesses/Cons:
16 base points
Artwork and aesthetics:
I love how the Dark Brown makes the ship look waterlogged. It has that Cursed eerie look that I love about some of the Cursed fleet!
Overall rating:
I give it an 8.5 overall, 9.5 for the Cursed fleet. I just with it had atleast a 4 for Cargo and 2s for guns.
