General Thoughts Bossk, Bounty Hunter is a huge improvement over his former Rebel Storm incarnation. In fact, in all around versatility he is one of my new favorite fillers for any squad due to his Double Claw Attack, Regeneration 10, and Flamethrower 20 abilities. The Regeneration 10 is especially nice to use for a Mid-Cost character who can give support to a High-Cost character like General Windu. Plus, he looks cool atop a skull.
Uses:
Since most games now consist of 200 point squads, this bounty hunter is a nice addition to any squad with good commanders such as General Windu, Jabba the Hutt, Darth Malak, Baron Fel, or Darth Vader Champion of the Sith. Remember to throw Mas Amedda in for those commanders who have range of six for their commander effects and Bossk, Bounty Hunter can be really tough. He may be used either as a melee support character or a nice troop thinner with his Flamethrower 20. Just try to use this ability early or when no melee characters of your own squad are nearby as this will hit a good percentage of the time. This is especially useful against characters with high defense that have just defeated one of your melee characters.
Strategies and game play:
An ideal combination for this miniature would be to place him with a commander that would either give him multiple attacks or boost his attack bonus. Try placing this miniature in a squad with Mas Amedda, General Windu, and Tarfful. You migh be surprised at the synergy you gain. A good way to look at Bossk, Bounty Hunter is as just the right man (?) to get that extra job done without spending a lot of point to get him in the game. Make sure that you don't place him right next to dangerous melee characters; he is more of a second row character. Get him out quickly to use his flamethrower on a crowd and then pull him back to support.
Combos with other miniatures:
Also, try making a huge bounty hunter team with Boba Fett, Bounty Hunter, Jabba the Hutt, Zam Wesell, Garindan, IG-88 Bounty Hunter for Hire and you will have a truly killer squad.
Ways to counteract it:
This miniature can be taken out quickly by other miniatures with the Flamethrower 20 ability, large damage miniatures that hit for 30 such as the AT-RT, or by melee character that may double or triple attack before this character has time to regenerate. With his low HP, if you can corner him so that there is no escape without an attack of opportunity, he will die fast.
Strengths/Pros:
Flamethrower 20 cannot be blocked, except in rare cases, and is not dependent upon the dice.
Lack of commander effect.
Double Claw Attack boosted by Regeneration 10 and Rend +10- lets Bossk last a little longer in melee situations.
Fairlly high defense for this point range.
Weaknesses/Cons:
Low HP may be exploited by melee characters.
Must be within 6 squares to use Flamethrower 20.
Artwork and aesthetics:
This version of Bossk is a vast improvement over his boring Rebel Storm version. Makes it seem like he actually is a feared bounty hunter and not just a drooling reptilian alien. The posture evokes movement.
Overall rating:
I give Bossk, Bounty Hunter a 9 out 10 due to his great synergy, versatility, and mobility within various factions and games.
