General description:
Seems like a decent ship. Fast movement, causes fear, guns might as well be non-existent, but hey you could use it to run....oh wait it has 1 cargo......and it costs 11 points? Seems good on paper, then you do the math.
Uses:
Well its uses are rather....limited. With 1 cargo it can't run treasure. And those 5L guns ain't gonna hit any side of a barn. The only use for it is to take care of any bad Unique treasures. That or maybe to slow down treasure runners with its fear, but that's doubtful.
Strategies and game play:
Its best used to head straight for an island. Use its fear to hold a treasure runner and then maybe ram it if it is small enough. If it arrives unopposed, explore the Wild Island and take any bad Uts or even good ones. Leaving it explored for another ship to pick up the coins.
Combos with other miniatures:
Ok, the best crew for this ship might actually be Commodore Edward Preble. Roll a 6 and you get an extra action for a ship in the fleet. But he’s also linked to all US ships. So now with 2 cargo you may actually get to run treasure with this ship! Wayne Nolan might be a good idea with Preble to reroll the action or to reroll the fear roll, but that seems like kind of a waste. plus put Preble on the fox and that's a total of 17 points!
This combo seems like putting Potpourri on a manure pile; it still stinks.
If you plan on using it just for scouting, an explorer is really all you need.
Ways to counteract it:
Honestly, this ship really isn't a problem unless it harrasses your treasure runners. In which case, just attack it outright. The Fear has a 1 and 6 chance of hurting you, which is the same probability that the guns will hit!
Strengths/Pros:
Fear
S+S+S movement
Weaknesses/Cons:
11 points
1 cargo
Useless Guns
Artwork and aesthetics:
I don't really like the colors. The sails contrast in an eyesore kind of way. Also, its not dark enough to be called the "Dark Fox."
Overall rating:
4 out of 10. The things that it can do are things that cheaper ships can do.
