After Coast City was destroyed by Mongul, Green Lantern Hal Jordan went on a rampage, destroyed the Oan power battery and murdered all but one member of the Green Lantern Corps. As Parallax, Jordan possessed the power of several power rings; trophies from his fallen comrades. Later, Parallax gave his life to re-ignite the sun after it had been consumed by a Sun-Eater. Years later, it was revealed that Jordan had been infected by Parallax, the personification of fear, driving the fallen hero to this state.
