Sea Monster. If this sea monster succeeds at a boarding party, it may eliminate all of the other ship's crew.

Pirates have nicknamed this gigantic shark after one of their own, and have made him a mascot of sorts.

There are several design choices in Pirates CSG that make me wonder what the developers were thinking at times, and Teach is a prime example of that.

Sea Monsters are inherently fragile; they can't heal and are destroyed when they have no more masts. The Sharks are even worse in that they only have 2 masts, making them 2 hit-monsters for frequently over 10 points. If they choose to engage anything, chances are that their prey can take them out easier than they can take out their prey. Maybe they are meant for small-masted ships? Still, if you mess up, you can kiss 50% of your shark goodbye.

Both Teach and Charcadon are meant to ram. 2-masted ships are not good rammers. In addition, all sharks have Huge base-plates! It's like a target has been painted on their back. If they made them smaller, the sharks could be just one card and save some money per print. I still have Teach's second card, just to wonder at it in the name of "what where they thinking?!" It's probably the biggest error, if not rules-wise.

However, I still would say that Teach may very well be the worst sea monster in the game. He is fragile, too 'small', if you will, to have an effective ability, can't really get extra actions, and is expensive for his survivability. Characdon is as bad, but he's faster and cheaper. Teach's guns may be okay, but on something like this, if you're using them, this fish is dead in the water.

I don't disagree. Sharks are pretty silly, but at least there's only three of them and they were only around for one set. However, the title of "worst sea monster" may go to He'e from SS. 18 points, S speed, American (not much support like with the Cursed and Pirates), and a bizarre and lame ability.
