Subject: Is 3D worth it?   PostPosted: Mon May 28, 2012 11:13 am Reply with quote

I dunno, I see a lot of movies coming out in 3D these days, but I just can't bring myself to pay the extra $3 to see them. As a rule we only go to matinees, as it is, so going to a 3D matinee here is pretty much the equivalent of paying full-price to see the normal version. I'm just wondering if anybody thinks it's worth it enough for a cheap-skate like me to shell out the extra cash? Question

Nah, the effects never impress me. I always forget I'm watching a 3d movie, it doesn't make a difference.

Of course, 3D COULD be used to make a cool movie, but it would have to be on purpose. Kind of like those 3D movies at amusement parks, i.e. Mickey's Philarmagic. (But then it'll be focused on the effect and become gimmicky. Rolling Eyes )

Not really. It's kinda cool, but not really worth the $3. Of course, they are making 3D that does not require glasses, and looks more realistic now...

No interest in 3D. Never got that much out of the few that I've seen.

This is what I suspect will be the case for me, as well, which is why my $3 has been remaining safely in my pocket up to now - so far, it looks like that has been the right choice.

IMAX is another format whose value I question, although I have been to a few IMAX shows - it might have been worth it when it first came out, as the movies were truly taking advantage of the bigger angles, but now most seem to be just happy with slapping the IMAX name on without fully exploiting the format(I mean, Kung Fu Panda? Really? Confused )
