The Fairfield option on the sealed decks is ok, but it does beg a question, especially for new players; What next?
When the game was in production, sealed deck was a good way to generate revenue for the hosting store. Now, it would most likely generate frustration when new players find they can't get cards except on eBay mainly. The new folks seeing the suitcase of cards many of us have, doesn't help.
It's a problem I have been mulling about. I'd like to find a way to generate new players. The best solution I can manage is to let players bring one ship of their own if they have have any, then use my set to pull the rest.
At that point it breaks down. Do I randomize using paper chits and d10s for random pulls? Do I have them use only cards that match the faction they have for their ship? Is crew random too?
And the winner gets?
And if another suitcase shows up and doesn't want to share use of his?
And, and, and...
Oh the fun of OOP games.
I wonder if it might not be a better idea to do a 'sealed deck' by pre-generating some fleets, pull them from my set, and the 'sealed' part is the random draw of the fleet. For a prize I guess each player buys in for $1-$5 that is used to buy a gift certificate from the hosting FLGS. Winner gets the certificate. |

What exactly is a fairfield option????
Also, the reason I want to do a sealed thing it is that I wouldn't have to drag my whole collection somewhere just to play. Also, when I do have my collection with me, it just takes a lot of time to draft and find all the ships that belong to each card even when I have everything sorted. If you know what I mean.
So the best way to do a sealed thing is buying packs then right? If so, what is the best set do you have the best experience with limited play? |
