This looks promising, but its not about Pirates, sorry:

Star Trek

Sorta surprised on this one, but it should open up a long running game if the mechanics are done correctly. There is so much out there in the Star Trek universe.

As long as Kirk can kick Picard's booty, and Picard can out negotiate Kirk, I will not be too critical of it.

Vlad beat you to this one! Wink http://www.miniaturetrading.com/im/forum/viewtopic/t=5062///
--------------------------

Some of the discussion over at BGG brought up this interesting quote:
Quote:
Hey there - Justin from WizKids Games. There are 2 incarnations of game.

1: A Ship to Ship combat game - Pre-painted plastic minis where 2 players play head to head. It will use the HeroClix combat dial to track HPs, attack, damage, etc. Ship figures will not play with Marvel or DC characters though

2: A co-op euro style strategy game where you will play 1 of the ST crew and work with others to complete missions, just like the movies/TV shows. Again, the HeroClix dial will be used to track stats (skills in the case of the co-op game).

Hope that clarifies things.

In one of the photos that was posted for the Watchmen release (for HC), there was some evidence that suggested Reiner Knizia could be involved with the "euro-style" game. In case you're not familiar with that name, he's one of the most prolific and highly-respected game designers in the business. He's created hundreds of different games and has won numerous boardgaming awards.

Still no news on punch out goodness? Sad I was hoping we wouldn't have to wait so long to hear some news on the starwars/pirates franchises. I still think an army game that is a cross between starwars and pirates using a medieval theme would be cool.

When i first saw Star Trek, I was hoping for Star Trek pocketmodels so Star Wars fanboys and Trekkers could fight to the death, in pocketmodel combat.

In a way, the Star Trek game is good news for Pirates, as it means there's a very good chance NECA will make an adaptation for PotC, which means we'll likely be seeing a Clix-based Pirates game within the next year(as I somewhat predicted - I just didn't expect the ships to also be using Clix bases). But, for those not too crazy about Clix, it's probably just more bad news... Sad

I also tend to agree. If they do the clix base ships, I will probably buy a pack and give it a whirl, but I have my doubts about it.

Geez, finally! I've been waiting two years for this game. It was originally slated for production by Topps WizKids, in anticipation of the 2009 film. When it failed to materialize, I stopped buying collectible minis altogether.

Star Trek games are one of my enduring early memories. They were at least as popular as any other genre, & all sci-fi gaming evolved from them. The original, Zocci's Alien Space/Star Fleet Battle Manual, has a form unlike anything since.

It is really true to its roots - kids pointing toys at each other & shouting "bang you're dead!" Played on a floor rather than a table, your mini is a paper dial attached to an 8-foot length of thread. This functions to establish line-of-sight, relative to the orientation of your ship (sort of like how masts regulate LOS for Pirates).
